BIO 212 Genetics
The major topics of modern genetics are studied; including Mendelian genetics, chromosomal genetics, molecular genetics, mutation, bacterial/viral genetics, recombinant DNA, and population/evolutionary genetics. Conceptual understanding and techniques of genetic analysis are emphasized. Laboratory work ranges from the traditional use of Drosophila to study the transmission of genes to the modern molecular techniques of genetic engineering. Students also complete an independent research project of their own choosing and design. Prerequisites: BIO 111 or BIO 112 or BIO 113 or permission of instructor.
