HIS 260 The United States in the Sixties

The 1960s brought profound historical change to the United States. Politics, race relations, foreign policy, gender relations, and cultural norms all underwent substantial revision. These changes, along with others, will be examined in the course, with particular emphasis given to social and cultural forces for change. These include, the civil rights movement, the student movement, the anti-war movement, second wave feminism, the sexual revolution, Black Power, the Chicano movement, the white backlash, and the Hippies and the counterculture. Prerequisite: 3 credits in history or permission of the instructor.
