HIS 220 History of Disability

This course introduces students to the field of disability history and the lived experiences of disabled people, and offers new interpretations of historical themes such as immigration, war and veterans, medicine, politics and social activism, capitalism and labor, and imperialism. We will explore the social, medical, and cultural constructions of disability from the colonial era to the present, and will examine how disability has intersected with other identities such as race, class, and gender.
