College Catalog 2024-2025

Veterans

SUNY Adirondack welcomes veterans, guard members, reservists, active military, and their families.  We want to ensure that military-affiliated students have access to resources and information to help them succeed.  On campus, we have a PFC Dwyer Veterans Peer to Peer Support Program linking veterans service members and their families together through veteran-to-veteran collaborative services, social activities, and community. This program also focuses on providing peer-to-peer mental health programs for veterans. SUNY Adirondack also offers a resource center specifically for military-affiliated students (Randles Veteran Resource Center) and a student organization geared towards military-affiliated students (Veterans Club). A NYS VA Advisor can also assist with applying for educational and other VA -related benefits.

Veterans and service members are allowed to transfer up to 44 previous credits that are a C letter grade or higher and from an accredited institution. Additionally, military-affiliated students can be eligible to receive in-state tuition despite their NYS residency status. For more information on this, please visit the following link: https://system.suny.edu/university-life/military-veterans/tuition/

Veterans Certification

Veterans' educational benefits are certified through the Office of Records and Registration. Veterans who wish to use their education benefits should first schedule an appointment with a NYS Veteran Benefits Advisor to complete the proper VA paperwork and receive their certificate of eligibility.  If eligible, please contact the Office of Records and Registration in Warren Hall to begin the certification process and provide the office with the required documentation.  More details can be found on our website at https://www.sunyacc.edu/veterans-resource-center.

In accordance with the Veteran's Benefits and Transition Act of 2018 (Public Law 115-407), eligible GI Bill and Vocational Readiness and Employment (formerly known as Vocational Rehabilitation) students shall provide the college with a certificate of eligibility or valid VAF 28-1905. The college will not impose a penalty, including the assessment of late fees, denial of access to school facilities, or require the beneficiary to borrow additional funds, because of delayed VA payments.

Veterans Educational Programs

Providing services to Veterans and dependents of Veterans has always been a concern of SUNY Adirondack.  A New York State Veterans Benefits Advisor is available right on campus to work with students who have questions or need assistance in applying for Veteran Educational Benefits.  Students can stop by the Randles Veteran Resource Center for assistance.  Veteran Educational Claims are processed through the Office of the Registrar.

PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer-to-Peer Program

With an office located in the Student Center, the Dwyer Program is funded by NY State Senate funds to serve veterans of Warren and Washington County.  Named to honor the memory of an Iraq war hero from Mount Sinai, NY, the Dwyer program is a peer-to-peer program for Veterans, including those veterans experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).  Services and programs are offered throughout Warren and Washington counties providing veterans, service members and their families with comprehensive peer support and recreational programming.  Veteran Peer Support Volunteers and Peer Mentors offer social programming, connections to community resources, peer support as well as crisis intervention and referrals to appropriate clinical resources.  Dwyer program staff collaborate with county Veteran Services Officers and community partners to expand the reach and impact of veteran support services.
