Wastewater Treatment - Basic Laboratory Course - CPRP 107

 

This class is offered as part of the NYSDEC Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate series. This particular course will teach proper procedures for solids analysis, pH and alkalinity determination, chlorine determination, BOD and Winkler Dissolved Oxygen. Hands-on application will follow discussion and demonstration of each procedure. Students will be given proficiency exams for each procedure. This course fulfills laboratory proficiency for DEC certification and is appropriate for operator renewal credit.


Upon completion of this program, students will:

  • Understand the various stages of wastewater treatment, including primary, secondary, and tertiary treatments
  • Know how to measure key water quality parameters like BOD, COD, TSS, pH, and turbidity
  • Understand water reuse, such as irrigation and industrial applications, and the suitability of treated wastewater for these purposes
  • Perform water sampling and analyze samples
  • Know how to operate and maintain common laboratory instruments and equipment
